Careers in education, such as those involved in our public school system, continue to experience strong relative growth, stability, and moderately increasing salaries. Due to a very strong demand for specialized teaching certifications and job requirements that now include post-college work, the salary for teaching and administration positions has been stronger than the average professional position over the past five years.
The median pay for most teaching roles is now over $50,000. The outlook for teaching roles varies greatly by metropolitan district and region, but solid growth is expected both due to increased population and expected declines in the average student-teacher ratio. Of particular note is the growth of teaching assistant roles, as these positions are being opened up to decrease the teacher student ratio and assist with special needs children, while often not requiring the full teacher certification.
