Technology Hiring Sees Massive Demand Increase for Cloud-Computing Skills

WANTED Analytics has reported that over 10,000 jobs were posted online in August for technology positions requiring experience in cloud computing. As companies continue to migrate to virtual servers, the need for cloud-computing talent is quickly growing.

The number of online job postings in August 2012 was up 80 percent over August 2011. The most common job titles for talent with cloud-computing skills include, in descending order: software engineer, senior software engineer, Java developer, systems engineer, senior systems engineer, network engineer, senior Java developer, systems administrator, enterprise architect, and websphere cloud computing engineer.

Other skills required alongside cloud computing are Linux programming, project management, Ruby, Android/iOS, and Ruby on Rails. The metro areas with the highest number of job listings for the month were San Jose, California; Seattle, Washington; San Francisco, California; Washington, D.C.; and New York, New York. New York also saw the largest growth in demand for cloud-computing skills for August, up 230 percent over August 2011.

U.S. employers spend an average of 6.5 weeks advertising for jobs with cloud computing. The regions most challenging for recruiters include San Francisco, California and Baltimore, Maryland, both averaging 7.5 weeks for online ads. Locations experiencing the least difficulty recruiting cloud-computing talent include Little Rock, Arkansas and Riverside-San Bernardino, California.
