Professional Networking Site for Students and Recent Grads Receives Venture Capital Funding
AfterCollege, a professional networking site for students and recent graduates , has recently acquired venture capital funding to enhance the development and marketing of their job seeker tools. Bringing together students, alumni, and employers, AfterCollege’s free service connects fresh talent with career opportunities before these top candidates hit the traditional job market.
“AfterCollege has evolved from job listings to a professional networking platform where students and recent grads can connect with employers and with alumni who can help them,” said Roberto Angulo, CEO of AfterCollege. “We’ve been collaborating with schools, employers and students in developing new services that we expect to roll out during the current academic year.”
The undisclosed amount of funding was provided by Flywheel Ventures, a seed and early stage venture capital firm. Flywheel sees vast potential in AfterCollege’s growing professional network – the platform already boasts 3,000,000 users annually; college students and recent graduates that connect through thousands of academic departments and student groups. Recently, AfterCollege launched public profile functionality, and has just passed the 600,000 profile mark. New features for student and alumni networking are currently in development and are expected to roll out to employers in the first quarter of 2012.
“Finding a job is one of the oldest uses of social networking,” said Trevor Loy, General Partner at Flywheel Ventures. “AfterCollege has helped millions of people find jobs for which they are most qualified. In doing so, AfterCollege has built the USA’s largest platform to enable employers to build quality relationships with departments, faculty, and students at the institutions most relevant to their hiring needs. Existing customers rave about the quality, speed, and cost-effectiveness of hiring using the AfterCollege platform. In partnering with the company, our Flywheel Ventures team is excited to help AfterCollege expand its ability to create broader and deeper relationships between employers, educational institutions, and job seekers.”
