National Grants Fund More Green Jobs
The Department of Labor has announced grants to six organizations that train workers how to perform in the green industry sector. Most of these organizations are based on the East Coast but train workers throughout the United States. They will help organizations that already have some career training in place but would benefit from outside consultation and support.
These following six organizations will receive a total of $38 million in Green Jobs Innovation Fund grants: Connecticut Department of Labor, Laborers International Union of North America Training & Education Fund, Opportunities Industrialization Centers of America Inc., Finishing Trades Institute of the Mid-Atlantic Region, Center for Employment Training, and Jobs for the Future Inc.
“This grant program is an important part of the administration’s efforts to equip workers with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in green industry jobs,” said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. “These are smart investments in the green energy jobs of today and the green energy economy of the future.”
