As part of an ongoing series with the faces of our industry, today we sit down with Ian Siegel, Cofounder and CEO of ZipRecruiter.com.

Ian SiegelZipRecruiter (launched in March of 2010) offers what may be the simplest free job board distribution service on the market. They currently feed to over 19 sources including eBay Classifieds, craigslist, SimplyHired, JuJu, JustJobs, etc… and they plan to add at least 10 more before the end of the year. The company has been on a tear in 2011, signing up more than 2,000 new businesses a month.

In 10 seconds or less – why should Recruiter.com members use ZipRecruiter?

ZipRecruiter is literally the fastest way to put a job ad on free (and some paid) job boards across the web. It takes less than a minute to start posting jobs, and it’s a great way to prospect for candidates from outside the usual sources.

You and your team didn’t come out of the HR or Recruiting industry right?

No…we are serial internet startup guys (CitySearch, Stamps.com, Rent.com, ThisNext, etc…).  The idea for ZipRecruiter came out of our own experiences as hiring managers. Obviously few (if any) businesses have the time to post to multiple job boards. We decided to see how easy we could make that.

Your traction is impressive given that you only came out a year ago. To what do you attribute your early success?

I would say it’s been a couple things.

First – we are obsessively focused on making the site easy to use. That goes for everything from posting a job to how our pricing plans work (month-to-month, cancel any time).

Second – we make exceptional customer support our highest priority. We (the 4 cofounders) directly answer phone calls and emails 7 days a week.  We want to talk to our customers to learn how we can better serve them.  The nice thing about communicating with ZipRecruiter is you’re always talking to an owner.

Post a Job with ZipRecruiterWhen we first spoke, you weren’t sure about marketing to recruiters. What changed?

When we initially built the business we assumed recruiters would already have viable solutions for job distribution. Then we looked at our data and discovered that literally hundreds of recruiting firms and staffing agencies were creating accounts.

The more we talk to recruiters, the more we realize how much they appreciate a) the simplicity of ZipRecruiter and b) their need to cast the widest net possible when prospecting for candidates. Our prices are low, there are no long term contracts, and the number of boards in our distribution network keeps growing.

You guys just launched a resume database. Is that something included with job posting or is that a separate product?

The Resume Database is part of an all-in-one package with Job Posting.  We launched the database less than two months ago and there are already over 100k resumes in there. Thousands of active job seekers are adding themselves daily. We’ve actually been surprised by how fast it’s growing.
