HR Certification Institute Adds Two New HR Credentials

HR Certification Institute logoThe HR Certification Institute, the internationally recognized certifying body for the HR field, expanded its advanced credential portfolio to include Human Resource Business Professional (HRBP?) and Human Resource Management Professional (HRMP?) certifications. The additions are for those HR professionals who primarily practice outside of the US. The two new credentials are a complement to the Institute’s other four certifications: Professional in Human Resources (PHR®), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®), Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR®) and California Certification (PHR-CA® and SPHR-CA®) .

The HRBP and HRMP will focus on globally-relevant HR concepts; ones that are common across geographic locations, and both were developed to validate core human resource knowledge and skills.

HRBP functions include:

  • Validating professional-level core HR knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrating mastery of generally accepted technical and operational HR principles

HRMP functions include:

  • Validating management-level core human resource knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrating mastery of generally accepted HR principles in strategy and policy development and service delivery

“We are very excited to broaden our comprehensive portfolio by offering the new HRBP and HRMP credentials,” said Mary Power, CAE, CMP, executive director of the Institute. “These credentials offer HR professionals who have mastered their country’s HR practices and regulations a way to prove and showcase their skills in both the strategic and technical aspects of the profession.”

Building the new certifications required a rigorous process including developing exam questions and validating the exams. Around 1,000 HR professionals from 49 countries participated in a pilot exam in May 2012. The successful participants are currently in the inaugural group to hold the HRBP or HRMP designations.

Registration for the first round of HRBP and HRMP exams is set to open in October. The exams will take place in March 2013.
