Administrative and Commercial Jobs on the Rise

Staffing and talent search specialist Express Employment Professionals reports that hiring trends during Q2 of 2012 will be greatest in commercial and light industrial jobs and administrative and clerical staff, with 32 percent and 28 percent of survey participants expecting to hire in these fields, respectively. Administrative jobs will experience the greatest growth over Q1 2012 rising by 8 percent, while commercial hires will rise 3 percent during the quarter. A further 43 percent of employers plan to hire for positions in many other sectors including healthcare, customer and food services, skilled labor, and maintenance.

“As the economy continues to recover from the recession, we are seeing more employers increase their production and add to their staff,” said Robert A. Funk, CEO and Chairman of Express. “In addition to the number of commercial and administrative positions increasing, we are also seeing an increase in professional positions.”

Indeed, the survey found that 11 percent of businesses anticipate hiring more engineers, 10 percent plan to hire additional accountants and other fiduciary professionals, and 8 percent are looking to expand their marketing and information technology staffs. Despite the planned new hires, 50 percent of participants said that they are finding it difficult to fill positions, even in a down economy. And nearly all respondents (99 percents) agreed that the attitude of a job applicant was the most important characteristic considered when deciding who to hire.
