Government jobs have been typified for the past decade by stability. Public sector jobs have been among the only in our modern society to retain certain benefits, such as generous pensions and benefits programs. Job growth within government has been robust; however reductions in overall Federal and state level budgets may depress the rapid job growth. However, general employment levels seem to be stable relative to the private sector.

Careers in government are too broad to categorize under a particular fixed educational track. However, there are certainly degrees that can help prepare students for public work, including degree programs in public policy, administration, American studies, history, and legal studies. Thsese specific degrees in no way encompass the broad variety of government jobs available, however if there is a management level track to be had in government, these program may advance and inform understanding.
